add to order > The Diesel & Electric Diaries Part 5 | DVD | £16.95
This series of programmes will take us to classic
stations, depots and other railway locations around
Britain, where the locomotives, liveries and rolling
stock are from an era that is now long gone.
Loco-hauled passenger and freight trains are in
abundance, but we will see shunters and multiple units as
well.
Volume 5 in the series of programmes
looks at three locations.
Chapter 1: Clapham
Junction in 1991 & 1992 together with a short
interlude at Kensington Olympia.
Passenger trains
are mostly in the hands of Class 47s and 33s with 73s on
the Gatwick Airport trains, but the almost extinct Class
50 turn up from time to time.
Freights are hauled
by 47s, 56s, 59s and 60s but a 73 and even a class 31
make an appearance.
Chapter 2:
Wellingborough on 21 May 1989 - the day of the
'INTER-CITY DIESEL DAY'
If you were there it's an
absolute must DVD, but even if you weren't, this was
probably the major main line gala day of 1989, if not the
decade!
Passenger specials ran from Leicester to St
Pancras & return all day hauled by exotic motive
power such as classes 20, 33s, 37s a freight class 47, a
56 and even a 58.
On top of this, we see the normal
daily service plus 20051 & 20055 turn up on a
freight.
Chapter 3: Bristol Temple Meads in
1987
Naturally, 47s, 50s and 'Cromptons' are
regular performers, but amazingly two Class 45/0s are
seen on passenger as late as 1987.
Freights are
seen as well behind 37s, 56s and even 31s.
Liveries
of course are from that period.
Full
captions with minimal commentary.
Approx running
time 63 mins
